Entry 07 — The Power of Feeling (and the State Akin to Sleep)
In manifestation, everything begins and ends with a feeling. Not the thought of it — but the felt reality of it.
Neville Goddard said, “Feeling is the secret.” And he was right — because feeling is how the invisible becomes visible. It’s how thought steps out of the mind and into the world. But there’s one deeper layer to this that most people overlook: the State Akin to Sleep. It’s the key that unlocks effortless feeling.
The Gateway to Creation: The State Akin to Sleep
The “State Akin to Sleep,” or SATS, is a phrase Neville Goddard used often. In my own experience, I’ve come to understand it as the doorway between the conscious and the subconscious — the middle ground where the mind is soft, open, and receptive.
In simple terms, this is the state right before you fall asleep. That dreamy, cozy, floaty feeling when you’re aware, but your body feels heavy and your mind begins to drift. You’re not fully awake, but you’re not fully asleep either — and that’s the magic zone.
Scientifically, this is known as the alpha brainwave state. It’s the same state you experience when you’re daydreaming, meditating, showering, driving, or just waking up from a dream. It’s that groggy, comfortable, half-conscious feeling where the logical part of your brain — the critic, the doubter, the skeptic — finally shuts up.
And that’s exactly why this state is so powerful. Because when logic steps aside, belief takes center stage. And what you believe in this state, the subconscious accepts as truth.
Why Feeling Is Easier in the Alpha State
Most people struggle with “feeling the wish fulfilled” because they’re trying too hard while fully awake. The conscious mind is too active — it keeps analyzing, questioning, measuring. But when you enter the state akin to sleep, effort disappears.
You don’t have to force yourself to feel. The body relaxes, the breath slows, and feelings come naturally. In that relaxed state, your imagination and emotion fuse effortlessly. That’s the true “feeling of the wish fulfilled.”
So instead of stressing about whether you’re doing it right, you only need to enter the state. Let the subconscious do the rest.
How to Enter the State Akin to Sleep
Here’s how I do it — simple, direct, and repeatable.
1. Relax the Body
Lie down or sit comfortably. Take 10 slow, deep breaths. With each exhale, let the muscles soften — especially the jaw, shoulders, and stomach.
2. Observe the Drift
Close your eyes and allow your thoughts to slow down naturally. You’ll start to feel that familiar pre-sleep heaviness — the one you feel after a meal, in a warm bath, or when your eyes get heavy from relaxation. This is the alpha state — stay here.
3. Visualize Simply
Pick one short scene that implies your desire is fulfilled. For example, if you want to manifest a job, see yourself walking out of the office feeling proud. Don’t visualize the whole story — just a single moment of completion.
4. Feel It Naturally
Let yourself feel how it would feel if that scene were real. Don’t force the emotion — it will arise by itself once the scene becomes vivid. The key is not effort, but surrender.
5. Drift Into Sleep
Repeat the scene or the feeling gently until you fall asleep, or until you sense your mind drifting. In this moment, your subconscious accepts what you imagine as fact.
Alternative Gateways
Sometimes it’s not easy to get into this state — especially when your mind is noisy or full of resistance. If that’s the case, clear the resistance first by journaling, breathing, or meditating before attempting SATS.
Other tools that help me reach the state akin to sleep include:
- Breathwork: slow, rhythmic breathing to calm the nervous system.
- Subliminal audios and affirmations: I often listen to soft, looping affirmations as I fall asleep. My subconscious absorbs them without resistance.
- Visualization triggers: showers, walks, or driving — activities where the body moves but the mind drifts — are great windows into this same mental state.
The trick is consistency, not effort. Each time you return to this state, you strengthen your bridge to the subconscious.
Faith Through Feeling
When you master this state, faith becomes a feeling. You no longer “try to believe” — you simply know. Because in the alpha state, your whole system aligns with the belief that it’s already done. It’s calm, grounded, and certain.
In that moment between waking and sleep, you are God — pure consciousness, molding the unseen into form. Every thought becomes a seed. Every feeling, a command.
Resistance: The Silent Teacher
If you find yourself struggling to relax or visualize, that’s okay. Resistance isn’t failure — it’s friction. And as I’ve said before, friction creates fire. It’s part of your growth, part of your alchemy.
Don’t fight it. Simply say:
“This resistance is guiding me toward clarity.”
Then return gently to the state.
Summary
- The State Akin to Sleep (SATS) is the pre-sleep alpha brainwave state — the bridge between conscious and subconscious.
- It’s the easiest and most effective time to plant intentions and embody the feeling of the wish fulfilled.
- Instead of forcing emotion, simply relax into the state.
- Breathwork, subliminals, and light visualization help access it.
- In this state, the subconscious accepts your imagination as truth.
- Resistance doesn’t block the process — it refines it.
Affirmation:
“As I drift into stillness, my mind opens to creation.
My imagination becomes real in the silence of the in-between.
I rest in the state akin to sleep,
where feeling and faith are one —
and my desires are already fulfilled.”
